Job Description:

We are currently seeking a qualified individual to fill an available position at our facility located in North Bay, Ontario. The successful applicant will work within Voyageur’s Information Technology department supporting the planning, design, implementation, and maintenance of information application systems.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Working with Enterprise Systems such as Intelex, WinAir, DocuShare, Penny, IIS, Apache Tomcat, Microsoft Dynamics GP, Flight Operations Software, and CMDB.
  • Maintaining MS SQL Server, and the installation, administration, and maintenance of SQL Service Instances.
  • Identifying improvement opportunities in existing software and processes, and presenting, developing, testing, and implementing changes as necessary.
  • Testing new software to ensure integration into company systems meets functional requirements, system compliance, and technical specifications.
  • Designing and implementing solutions for business intelligence, dashboards, queries and reports; and creating and maintaining system documentation for core business applications.
  • Modifying and maintaining report databases as necessary, and ensuring data integrity.
  • Independently installing, programming scripts and reports, and managing databases.
  • Developing and maintaining complete documentation for database infrastructure, and proactively managing the database infrastructure to ensure capacity, availability, and stability are maintained as per the business and technical requirements.
  • Preparing schematics, tables, and logic diagrams as required for problem analysis.
  • Designing database backup and restoration strategies; monitoring system alerts and backup schedules; and ensuring all data is backed up and protected to mitigate unforeseen events.
  • Setting up testing, development, staging, and production environments, and participating in user acceptance testing to ensure the delivered product meets the required functionality and performance requirements.
  • Investigating and resolving issues and requests from the Help Desk and business users, and liaising with vendors regarding problem investigation and application upgrades.
  • Application and database tuning and performance monitoring, and General Service Improvement Objectives.
  • Other associated duties as assigned.

Technical Qualifications:

  • Software engineering skills including architectural design, business analyst, implementation design, coding, and debugging.
  • Knowledge of MS SQL Server, relational database systems and the software development life cycle.
  • Experience in programming (C#, .NET, SQL, HTML, CSS); analysis and development; structures methodologies for the development, design, implementation, and maintenance of applications; in design, code, test, debug and document applications; and in the use of object and/or third generational language development tools.
  • Experience with relational and hierarchical database technologies, and in the use of information retrieval packages using query languages.
  • Experience in Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO) using monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  • Experience with backups, restores and recovery models; and knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for MSSQL Server.
  • A good understanding of database design and development methodologies including the ability to analyze business requirements; develop entity relationship diagrams and transform logical data models to normalized physical database models.
  • Database development including writing SQL scripts, SQL stored procedures, BI warehousing, and implement triggers.
  • Extensive knowledge of software products including Microsoft Office software (i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook) is required.

Standard Qualifications:

  • Completion of post-secondary, vocational, or technical training with focus in engineering, computer science, and/or business is preferred.
  • Minimum 2 to 5 years of relevant work experience.
